JackHammers Rip T-Bones 14-5

KANSAS CITY, KS – The Joliet JackHammers (27-23) offense exploded in a big way, scoring a season high 14 runs, ripping the Kansas City T-Bones (33-18) 14-5 Saturday night at Community America Ballpark. The JackHammers also tied a season high with 19 hits and improved to 5-4 against Kansas City.

Jon Nelson blasted his 16th home run, Freddie Thon singled and scored on a Chris Colton triple. Ryan Wehrle then launched his first home run, a two run shot to put the JackHammers up 7-1.

The JackHammers added four more in the eighth to go up 14-4. Roberto Mena drove home two with a single, Jonathan Wyatt knocked singled home another run and Kevin Rios lifted a sacrifice fly for the final Joliet run.

Kansas City cut into a 7-1 deficit with three in the fourth. Jimmy Mojica doubled and scored on a Jake Blackwood infield single. After a Rico Washington double, Ray Sadler knocked home a run with a sacrifice fly. Jim Fasano collected an RBI double to make it 7-4.

Joliet quickly added two more in the fifth, loading the bases with nobody out. Rafael Mendez walked, Wyatt singled and Rios was a hit by a pitch to fill the bases for Brad Correll. The third baseman knocked home two with a single up the middle for a 9-4 advantage.

Every JackHammer collected at least one hit with six players having at least two base hits. Wehrle was 4-5 with two doubles, a home run, two runs batted in and three runs scored. Correll and Wyatt each went 3-6 with Correll knocking home three runs.

Knippschild lasted only 4.2 innings, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on ten hits with four strikeouts. The bullpen allowed seven more runs on nine hits in 4.1 frames.
